Holy Matrimony at St. Agnes Catholic Parish
Congratulations on your engagement! We’re honored to accompany you as you prepare for the Sacrament of Matrimony. Our goal is that your wedding be a beautiful, reverent celebration, and that your marriage be strong, joyful, and rooted in Christ.
Marriage is a vocation and a sacrament in which the spouses themselves confer the sacrament on one another by freely giving consent before God and the Church. It is a covenant—a lifelong, faithful, and exclusive union ordered to the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children. In this covenant, God’s love becomes present in the couple’s total self-gift and flows to their family and community (cf. Mt 19:6; Eph 5:25–26). Jesus teaches that marriage is indissoluble, and through Matrimony He gives the grace to live this calling.
For a valid Catholic marriage:
Both are free to marry.
They freely exchange consent.
They intend lifelong fidelity and openness to children.
Consent is given in canonical form: before an authorized minister and two witnesses.
