Pastor’s Letter of Recommendation
What is a Pastor’s Letter of Recommendation?
A Pastor’s Letter of Recommendation is a letter signed by the pastor certifying that an individual is a registered (minimum of 6 months), active, and contributing parishioner.
Such a letter may be requested for various purposes, including serving as a godparent at Baptism, a Confirmation sponsor, participation in ministry roles, or other situations in which a parishioner’s active participation in the life of the Church is required.
To receive this letter, the individual must comply with the requirements listed below. The pastor will not sign a Letter of Recommendation if these requirements are not met.
What Does Active Participation Mean?
To be considered an active parishioner in good standing at the Parish, we require the following:
You must be registered in the parish for a minimum of six months.
If you are unsure of your registration status, please contact the parish office. You fulfill your obligation to attend Sunday Mass regularly and Holy Days of Obligation.
To help us maintain records of participation, please use your parish envelopes or online giving. You contribute to the financial needs of the parish as you are able.
What Happens If These Requirements Are Not Met?
From time to time, the Parish is asked to provide letters for individuals who:
are not registered with the parish
have no record of stewardship or active involvement in parish life
are not known to the pastoral staff, or
have recently moved to the parish and have not yet established a record of participation.
In these situations, it may not be possible for the pastor to provide a Letter of Recommendation.
However, this may also be a meaningful opportunity to reflect on one’s relationship with Christ and His Church. Being recommended for a role of service or witness within the Church is a serious responsibility and should be undertaken with faith and commitment.
What If I Recently Moved to the Parish?
If you have recently moved from another parish and have not yet been registered at St. Agnes Catholic Parish for the required six months, you may wish to request a Letter of Recommendation from your previous parish or provide some form of verification of your participation there.
